Trinity in Action
Our teachers help the children get a jump start on kindergarten skills:
Following classroom rules and procedures: Students has a structured and detailed plan for their day. The teachers have high, but realistic, expectations for their students and the students always rise to meet them! Student thrive in this structured environment and it prepares them for the rigor of task management in their new school!
Reading: The classroom has a guided reading time where one teacher reads with a small group of children on their reading level and teaches the children strategies to become better readers. During guided reading time the other students are working with the second teacher on reading strategies and skills. They practice high frequency words daily as a whole group at the circle time as well as in small groups during their skill building time. Students learn many of their words and letter sounds through songs that coordinate with the curriculum theme for that week.
Math: The classroom also participates in a guided math program. Similarly to guided reading, during guided math time the students are working in a small group with a teacher on mathematics skills. The students not working on guided math that day are working at math stations with the second teacher Students practice problem solving daily in centers, in skill building, as well as in their free play. During circle time student work on counting, math vocabulary as well as problem solving.
